LPC LLM Student, Bar Manager, Customer Service Advisor and Advocate for equality
Despite the pandemic I was still extremely busy in 2020, but by November I felt like something was missing from my life. I love writing, so I thought about writing a book, but then I felt like blogging was the perfect fit for me. I get to express my opinions, shine a light on things that are important to me and potentially show a side that not everyone gets to see.
I can come across quite cold when I first meet people. Maybe this is an understatement because my partner told all of her colleagues I was a knob after we met and most of my friends thought that I hated them for at least the first few weeks of our story. I guess it’s because I say what I think and don’t allow people to walk over me. I know that this can be intimidating but I’m loyal, honest and supportive, so for me first impressions do not define people.
Everyone comes from different upbringings, environments, social classes and family values. Everyone has had different experiences in life and everyone has responded to these experiences in their own way. I’m an advocate for equality, but I do not force my opinions on people. In order to make a change, you have to listen to other’s perspectives and understand their thoughts and opinions. Don’t get me wrong if you’re being a dick I will tell you – I do not agree with spreading hate.
I suffer with mental health issues, it’s a constant battle, but one that I’m currently winning. The smallest thing can set it off, but I’m learning to spot it before it takes over. It has stopped me studying, it has affected work, caused friendships to end and impacted my relationships, but I have learnt that it is not something to be ashamed of. If 2020 taught me anything it is that mental health issues should be discussed more, because people need to know that they are not alone in what they are experiencing.
After taking a two year break from studying, I’m back in the game and more determined than ever to achieve my career goals. I have worked too hard to let anything stop me – law is my passion.
